Eating Disorders Programs
Melbourne Centre for Women's Mental Health has a multidisciplinary team of health professionals who work collaboratively with you to create an individualised Eating Disorder program aimed at supporting you and your loved ones to have a better quality of life and work toward recovering from eating issues. We understand the range of eating issues and body image difficulties that women and girls experience and work with:
- Mild to Severe forms of Eating Disorders (Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder)
- Exercise compulsion
- Binge eating
- Atypical Anorexia
- Overeating and Compulsive Eating
- Obsessive Compulsive Eating
- Restricting food (groups, meal times, etc)
- Picky / Fussy eating
- Body Dysmorphic Disorder
- Orthorexia and more.
Well-researched therapies are available for Eating Disorders and related conditions and we do base treatment on these, but these manualised treatments sometimes need adapting to the individual. Some people with Eating Disorders also have Autism Spectrum Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Social Anxiety, Depression or other contexts that impact on conventional treatment. Our team are trained and experienced in all these areas and will adapt the treatment plan according to your context and refine treatment according to how you respond.
Some people experience Eating Disorders as chronic conditions that have either been left unaddressed for years, or have not responded to treatment. Our Senior Clinical Psychologists and Senior Dietitian have extensive experience supporting people with a range of severe and chronically disabling eating disorders. Having all held leadership positions at specialist Eating Disorders inpatient and outpatient hospitals, they are accustomed to working within a multidisciplinary team approach and will work collaboratively with you to find an approach or combination of approaches that will work best for you.
